As fast as seasons change, so has the University of Hawaii at Hilo women’s soccer head coaches.
That’s a pattern first-year head coach Marc Miranda intends to stop as he becomes the third coach in three years of the five-year-old program.
“When I was in college, we had a lot of instability as far as coaching,” said Miranda. “I thought if ever we had some stability, we’d be in a better position to compete.
“If we can provide continuity for these young ladies and not waiver in our thoughts too much, so they can understand us and what we’re trying to do as a unit, we’ll be in a great position for years to come.”
The focus of the Vulcans’s play is on defense where the dynamic trio and team captains Vanessa Butin, Lyne DuPont and Jessica Snell form a solid line in front of the goalie.
“They provide a great deal of leadership,” Miranda said. “On the field, they’re our real got get ‘um leaders.”
The trio lead a group of 10 returnees from last year’s squad who will be challenged to bring along 15 newcomers.
“The team chemistry is coming along better than in years past,” Miranda said. “We want to be stable and be successful.
“With success, stability comes.”
The building begins when they host Chaminade University (Saturday, August 28) on the UHH soccer field.
